Geocaching and the Night Cache

Good morning everyone.  As the year draws to a close, what area has been the busiest placing new geocaches?  Here in Canada, Ontario is the leader in that category (they also have a larger geocacher population) with 5,686 new listings.  Manitoba ranks 7th in Canada with 1,298 so far with three days remaining.  Down South, (no surprise here), California tops the list with 7,866 new listings.  Texas is second with 6,964.  North Dakota is in the 40th spot with 377 new geocaches. A couple of weeks ago, I was inspired to attempt a newer night cache that's here in the city.  This came about from the last Cache Advance Cache Crate I received that was night cache themed.  My plan was to go Friday after my staff Christmas party, but I stayed longer than planned and the park closes at 10pm, if they actually close the park.  There are gates to close off the park, but I'm just not sure if they will actually close them.  It's a park that I'm not too familiar with, but based on wha

Geocaching and Roadside Attractions part 3.

Good morning everyone.  Who doesn't like to find a large geocache?  In order to find a large cache, we need someone to hide that large cache.  So far this year, geocachers in Michigan have hidden 80 large, active geocaches.  North Dakota is 35th with 4 new large caches hidden this year.  Back here in the Great White North, the geocachers in Ontario have hidden 60 large caches that are still active in 2019.  Manitoba sits in 5th spot with 9 new large caches. Happy Winter Solstice.  Today is the first day of Winter and just days away from Christmas.  It's also a busy time of year for many people as they get ready for the holiday season with last minute gift shopping (that's me), finalizing travel plans, food preparations, and work parties.  Last night was my work party.  I didn't think it would last very long, allowing me to possibly do a night cache and being able to write about that adventure this morning.  I stayed much longer at the party.  Home is in the opposite d

Geocaching and the Cache Crate

Good morning everyone.  Sticking with Cache The Line's WAM (Weekend Adventure Mission), this week is about Earthcaches.  The weekend mission is to find an Earthcache.  California is the best place for Earthcaches.  There is 1,006 listed Earthcaches there.  North Dakota is 48th with 23 Earthcaches.  Up here in the Great White North, Ontario leads the way with 620.  Manitoba ranks 8th in the country with 65.  Mexico has 59 Earthcaches with Quintana Roo region having the most with 15. If you recall, two weeks ago I was waiting for something to arrive in the mail, but it didn't arrive in time.  I made mention that it might show up the day after that blog was published.  Guess what happened?  Yup.  I went to my mailbox on the Monday, opened it and there it was.  My first ever Cache Crate from Cache Advance.  I have watched Joshua, the Geocaching Vlogger open numerous Cache Crates on YouTube.  You can watch him open the October Cache Crate here > October Cache Crate   Since I

Geocaching and Milestones

Good morning everyone.  This weekend is Cache The Line's first WAM (Weekend Adventure Mission).  The mission for this weekend is to find a cache that is rated as a size large.  Looking at caches that are rated as a large in Canada, Ontario has the most with 491.  Manitoba is 7th with 68 large caches.  There are 1,589 large caches in all of Canada.  Across the border, California is the place to be if you want to find large caches.  They have 691 listed.  North Dakota ranks 47th in the States with 22 large caches. The one thing that all geocachers (I'm going to guess that all geocachers like to do this) is celebrate and share our milestones.  The most prominent is the number of finds we have hit.  It doesn't matter how big or small that number is, it's a proud achievement to that geocacher and worthy of celebration.  Milestones can be anything.  Whatever your goal is, if you reach it, it's a milestone.  Did you complete a county challenge?  Maybe you reached a certa

Geocaching and Random Thoughts/Odds and Ends

Good morning everyone.  Top finder of geocaches in the U.S. for the month of November is HIKAMTN from Michigan with 4,298 finds.  In North Dakota, MinotRanger found the most with 62.  Back on this side of the border, LEBTF from Ontario is the top Canadian with 1,293 finds in November.  Locally, bergmannfamily found 333.  According to my list, I found 57 in November with 55 of those coming from powertrails. It's Sunday morning and I sit here in the front room watching the sun come up, geo-dog is laying on the couch in a very not lady like position, having a snooze, and I don't have a blog to publish.  In fact, I have nothing prepared.  Normally I would have something near completion at the very least.  Not this time.  As I had hinted in last week's blog, I was hoping for something to arrive in the mail and I was going to write about it.  Guess what didn't show up?  My blog topic.  Honestly, I felt like Charlie Brown checking his mailbox and not finding any Christmas ca
