Geocaching and my Dam Sunday

Good morning everyone.  Continuing down the Westcoast, we look at California for the oldest and most favorited caches.  The oldest cache was 'LAX' (GC1C).  Hidden in May, 2000.  This cache was found 15 times before going missing in 2001.  It has been archived.  The oldest active cache is 'Phil's Memorial Cache (Oldest CA Cache)'  (GC5B).  Hidden in September, 2000.  It has been found 1,127times and has been given 500 favorite points so far.  The most favorited cache in California is 'Laughing Sal's' (GCBD0A).  This virtual was placed in January, 2003 and can be found in the San Francisco area.  It has 4,363 logged finds and 891 favorite points.  A couple of weekends ago, I was sitting with sm66 in her backyard.  A local caching couple, O'Keefek, had posted on FB that they were on a geocaching date.  I asked where their adventure was taking them.  While I waited for a reply, I mentioned to sm66 how the O'Keef...

Geocaching and the Bomb Squad

Good morning everyone.  We continue down the Westcoast to Oregon, the birthplace of Geocaching.  'The Original Stash' (GCF) was the very first geocache hidden in May, 2000.  The oldest active cache in Oregon is 'GC12 5/12/2000' (GC12).  This was also hidden in May, 2000.  It has been found 2,894 times and has received 1,346 favorite points.  The cache with the most favorite points is "Original Stash Tribute Plaque' (GCGV0P).  Hidden in September, 2003, it has accumulated 3,963 favorite points so far. Geocaching made the news around here recently, and probably not in the best way either.  Someone reported a suspicious package in a local park to the authorities.  The bomb unit was brought out.  Fortunately it was determined to be perfectly safe and not blown up.  You can find out what happened here >  Bomb Squad . This sort of thing isn't new (having the bomb squad called in for a suspicious package), but I decided to Goog...

Geocaching and Random Stuff

Good morning everyone.  This week, we are heading back across the border to Washington State.  The oldest cache is 'Mike's First'  GC4.  Hidden May 7th, 2000.  It was found once and has since been archived.  The oldest active cache is 'Geocache (GCD)'  GCD.  Hidden in June, 2000, it has been found 1,881 times and has received 898 favorite points.  The most favorited cache in Washington State comes as no surprise.  'Geocaching Headquarters' GCK25B.  Hidden in July, 2004, it has 17,264 found logs and 4,944 favorite points. I was hoping to do my June Cache Advance Cache Crate unboxing this week, but there's just one problem, I don't have a cache crate to unbox.  I have a busy weekend coming up, so if it shows up in the next day or two, the unboxing will have to wait until next week.  What I really wanted to do with this month's unboxing was talk about the journey the crate takes to get to me.  I'll still do that and to...

Geocaching and #GetToKnowMe Challenge

Good morning everyone.  Continuing west, we stop at the west coast of Canada, and the province of British Columbia for it's oldest and most favorited geocaches.  The oldest cache is 'Treehugger (BC's First Cache)' GC1DD.  Hidden in February, 2001 in the Vancouver area, it has been found 1,669 times and has received 482 favorite points.  The geocache with the most favorite points is also in the Vancouver area.  'CPC (Canada Place Cache)' GC3WQYC.  Hidden in September, 2012, it has been found 4,939 times (the most found geocache in BC), and has 718 favorite points to date. There has been a challenge that is slowly making it's way around.  If you watch any geocaching YouTube content, you may have seen your favorite vlogger do this challenge.  It's called Get To Know Me.  The basis behind this is for the audience to get to know the creator a little better.  This challenge was started by Jason of Geo_Dudez.  You can catch the initial c...

Geocaching and the North Dakota Camping and Caching event

Good morning everyone.  This week we'll be jumping back up to Canada and the province of Alberta for the oldest and most favorite.  The oldest geocache is 'Strathcona Wilderness 1' GCA6.  This was hidden in November, 2000 and is located East of the city of Edmonton.  To date, it has been found 645 times and has received 253 favorite points.  Speaking of favorite points, the cache with the most hearts is 'Lake of the Little Fishes' GCA079.  This virtual is located at Lake Louise and was placed in October, 2002.  To date, it has a whopping 3,944 logged finds and 341 favorite points.  I got this one back in August, 2015. This weekend should have been the North Dakota Camping and Caching event.  Just like everything else in the world right now, this event was cancelled until next year.  I have attended the last two camping and caching events.  I was hoping to go again this year, but I had to wait and see when D-2002's grad ceremony wa...

Geocaching and the Library

Good morning everyone.  Continuing West, let's look at the oldest and most favorite caches in Idaho.  The most favorite cache listed is 'The Corps of Discovery'  GC8E37.  It was hidden in September 2002.  It has been found a whopping 2,744 times and receiving 575 favorite points.  This cache was locked in 2017.  Locked?  This geocache was a travelling geocache.  It was a container with a geo-coin inside.  It has since been converted to a trackable.  As for an actual geocache with the most favorite points, that goes to 'Southern Idaho's First!', GC5C.  Hidden in September, 2000, it has been found 701 times and received 288 favorite points.  With a title like that, you'd think that was Idaho's oldest geocache.  Nope.  'Camels Prairie Stash' GC25 gets the nod.  Hidden in June, 2000, it has been found 387 times and has 204 favorite points. One of the fun hides that I like are the library hides.  I don't o...
