Good morning everyone. Today we stop off in North Dakota, my neighbor to the South. The oldest geocache, or the first one placed anyway, was 'Red River of the North #1' GC4C6. Placed in March, 2001 just north of Fargo. It was found 63 times before being archived in March, 2004. The oldest active geocache is 'The Buck Stops Here!' GC551. Also hidden in March, 2001, it has been found 1,060 times and has 159 favorite points to date. The last three people to find it was Kneel More, Merlin 1392, and Halemeister. Halemeister has promised a video on his YouTube channel soon. You can catch it here when he does publish it > Geocaching with Halemeister Maybe Kneel More will have a video as well. You can find his channel here > Kneel More I found this cache, which is located on the east side of Bismarck n 2019. The most favorite geocache is 'FMGT The Visit Fargo-Moorhead Multicache' GC5KWCX. Hidden in January, 2015, this multi stage cache has been found 796 times and has 259 favorite points. I found this one in July, 2016. Halemeister and Kneel More are also recent finders. Keep watching their channels for a possible video. Second most favorite geocache is 'Painted Canyon Overlook' GC238GK. Published in April, 2010, it has 967 logged finds with 179 favorite points. I also found this one in 2019. The last geocache I want to mention is the third most favorite, 'Strong man at the Fair' GC2CTZK. Hidden in August, 2010 by Trycacheus in the Gilby area, it has been found 319 times, including The Geocaching Vlogger (you can catch his video of this geocache here > Geocaching Vlogger) and has 170 favorite points so far. One of my goals when it's safe to travel again is to go caching in the Gilby area. There are plenty of amazing geocaches that have been placed by Trycacheus.
Geocaching HQ has been running a couple of promotions this year. The first one being Memory Lane. This one was set up similar to other previous promotions. You earn points by finding geocaches. Some geocaches are worth more points than others. The base point for any geocache was five points.
The promotion was delayed in starting due to the pandemic that has gripped the world. HQ wanted to make sure everyone was safe. Also, when the promotion was scheduled to start, there was parts of the world that was on lockdown. No uneccesary traveling. HQ decided to start the promotion at the beginning of June and have it run until the beginning of January, 2021. I did a little calculating based on the length of the promotion (seven months), and the top level for points (200 points), and determined that you just needed to find six geocaches per month to earn to top souvenir. That sounds easy peasy. Even the most casual geocacher can do this, including me. I'm lucky if I find more than ten caches per month, compared to the 100+ I was finding five years ago.
I should also point out that I'm not big on these virtual promotions. They don't excite me as much as it does for other geocachers. How could I resist finding six geocaches per month? What helped me with the points was doing Adventure Labs. Each stage was five points towards your total of 200 points. Eight five-stage Adventure Labs will give you 200 points. This promotion is getting easier and easier.
What you will see below is just a few of the geocaches that I found during the promotion so far.
(I went for a walk along a power trail and found a few geocaches)
(A shared FTF with Susan & KatieK2000 and Marco Island Guy & Girl)
(Sm66 and myself found this one while on a day trip to Seven Sisters Falls)
(At one of the stages of an Adventure Lab that sm66 and myself did)
(Sm66 and myself had a muddy adventure for just one geocache)
