Geocaching and the Cache Advance February Cache Crate.

Good morning everyone.  Today I'll be looking at the furthest Virtual caches in Manitoba.  The most Northerly and most Easterly virtual is "Adventures in Churchill" GC7B6JX.  It has a Latitude of N58 46.391 and a Longitude of W094 10.235  Published in 2018 and was part of the Virtual 1.0 rewards.  Most Westerly virtual is "The Stack" GC88ZA0.  Published in 2019, it has a Longitude of W101 52.788.  The virtual that's the furthest South is actually in the city of Winnipeg (not extremely far South).  "Great Coaches In Blue Bomber History" GC88ZEE.  This can be found at Investors Group Field, home of the Canadian Football League and defending Grey Cup Champions, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.  Lastly, the oldest virtual is also in Winnipeg.  "First Post- Winnipeg" GC6C18.  Published in July, 2002 and can be found in the downtown area.

It's that time of month where I get to open the latest Cache Advance Cache Crate.  Lots of smiles all around as I unbox this latest edition.  As you can see, I'm using the Geocaching map as a background for the pictures.  Plenty of caches found in the Winnipeg area.

The first thing I see sticking out of the packaging is an arm.  What the heck could this be?  I pull it out and find this bendable heart character with a bracelet.  A Valentine's themed box.  What other Valentine's related goodies are in here?  For the map, I zoomed in closer to the area I'm usually found in.

Another bendable Valentine's character.  It wouldn't be Valentine's unless you have a couple.  I've scrolled the map down to show the Southern part of the city.  Not as many smiles down there, but I have my fair share.

A third bendable Valentine's character?  How many are in here?  I think the whole family is here.  LOL.  This is the geo-art that's Southwest of Winnipeg.  I've completed the fox and apple.  Just recently I did the very top of the top hat.

A sticker that says I love geocaching.  I do love geocaching and it fits with the Valentine's theme.  I've scrolled the map over to the East part of the city.  I've been busy in that area too, going back to what I call my old stomping grounds (I lived on the very right side of the picture in my younger days, before the invention of the world wide web)

Frogs.  A box of frogs.  No, not the English rock band that formed in 1983, or as the Urban Dictionary says "Mad as a box of frogs", meaning crazy or eccentric.  I have to admit that I didn't catch on to the significance of the frogs as I was still in a Valentine's unboxing mindset.

A little rubber ducky being supported by a couple of frogs.  On the map, I zoomed in on my simple geo-art in the North part of Winnipeg.  Two of the puzzles have gone missing and thusly archived.  I'm thinking of hiding again and expanding this "X".  There are plans on rebooting the two archived caches.

A frog trackable for Leap Day.  Now I get why there was three frogs in the box.  Leap Day.  DOH!!  It was a long day at work.  LOL.

This is the flip side of the trackable.  A very cool looking coin.  I needed the assistance of one of the frogs to cover up the tracking code.

A cachekinz trackable.  The saying does apply to many of us.  We do eat, sleep, cache and repeat.

That was the February Valentine's and Leap Day themed Cache Crate.  What will be in next month's crate?  Pie day is in a couple of weeks.  So is St. Patrick's Day (Shamrock shakes from McD's, minty).  Could the crate have one of those themes?  We'll have to wait and see.  Speaking of Leap Day, that was yesterday.  Who went out caching on February 29th?  Tune in next week to find out what I did for Leap Day.  Until then, be safe, be happy, be kind to others, hug your geo-pets, enjoy life, and most of all, have fun.  Peace out.

Geocaching and July, 2022

Good morning everyone.  Last month I was a little late in getting that month's blog published, but this month I want to get this out early.  I'll explain why later. July has been an interesting month.  I've been on a few adventures, rode my bike, and I've been hosting a weekly themed event. July started off with Auntie Mo and myself going on a spur of the moment road trip into the Southeast portion of Manitoba to do an Adventure Lab that takes us to some roadside attractions.  There was other ALs to do as well. (big Buffalo in Grunthal, Manitoba) (big deer in Saint Malo, Manitoba) Later in the month, I tagged along with Auntie Mo as she did the four Adventure Labs in the East part of Winnipeg.  I had done them already, but I couldn't resist giving Auntie Mo a tour of Transcona.  This also helped set her up to be close enough to claim her 800th find while she visits family back home in Nova Scotia.  As I write this, she has reach...

Geocaching and Patreon

Good morning everyone.  Almost 10 months is completed for the year 2019.  Where has the time gone?  Who has found the most geocaches so far?  In Canada, it's Troqueurs32 with 10,423 finds.  That's almost ten thousand more than me.  Down in the U.S., mondou2 has found 16,743 geocaches.  Locally, 4elements5senses has logged 2,169 finds so far among Manitoba based geocachers.  Tick_Magnet is the top North Dakotan with 2,004. If you follow any of the Geocaching YouTubers (vloggers), podcasters, or bloggers, you may have heard some talking about and thanking their Patreon subscribers.  What exactly is this Patreon that these people are talking about?  Hopefully this week's blog will help you understand the background and connection that these geocaching artists have with Patreon.  Helping me out with this project are two people that I subscribe to.  GeoJangie and Cache the Line, both of whom are Patreon creators. First, a little...

Geocaching and encounters with animals of the fake kind.

Good morning everyone.  Welcome to blog #6.  Before I start with this week's topic, here is today's geocaching fun fact:  The province of Ontario has the most active Earthcaches with 500.  Manitoba ranks 7th in Canada with 63.  By comparison, California has 974 while Delaware and District of Columbia have 11 each.  Personally, I have only done 29 so far and hope to increase that total this year. This week's topic is encounters with animals of the fake kind.  These would be mostly crows, spiders, rats and snakes of the plastic, rubber type.  I'm sure we've found our fair share of these.  They're always fun to find and certainly are a break from film canisters in pine trees.  How many of these made you jump when you found it before you knew it was a geocache?  Most of these give me a good chuckle although I will have to admit that one did make me jump back initially.  More on that one in a bit.  If I was in a tropical loca...
