Geocaching and Adventure Labs pt1

Good morning everyone. This week we continue down the Old Man River, better known as the Mississippi, and stop in the State of Missouri. The oldest geocache is 'Missouri's First - Watts Mill' - GC37. Hidden in June, 2000, it has been found 3,820 times with 1,016 favorite points. The geocache with the most favorite points is 'St. Louis Arch Virtual Cache' GC7ED. This virtual was published in April, 2001. It has 5,442 found logs and 1,148 favorite points.

I have had an opportunity to do a couple of Adventure Labs in the past month or two. Both are located about an hour West of Winnipeg in the city of Portage La Prairie. Both are uniquely different. That's what I love about Adventure Labs. They can take you to interesting places. No container to look for. This type of geocache is ideal for those who are traveling. It can take you somewhere that's historical. It can take you to statues and monuments. It can even take you to works of art.

The first Adventure Lab I'm going to look at this week is titled 'Portage La Prairie Art Tour' and was put together by local geocacher ilike2travel. I have passed through Portage La Prairie many times and have done some geocaching in that city. This Adventure Lab took me to places I probably never would have gone to. If I did, probably didn't pay attention to my surroundings.

My first stop of the art tour was at the BDO Centre arena. The mural on the side of the building depicts a winter scene of hockey, skating, and other winter activities.

With the correct answer submitted, it was off to stage two. This was at the back of a library. This mural was so long, I couldn't get it all in one picture. I tried to get two different angles to capture as much of the art work as I could. If not for geocaching, I would never have thought to go down that back alley.

Stop number three was at a family resource centre.

Not too far away was the fourth stage of this Adventure Lab.

My final stop was at Stride Place arena, home to the Portage Terriers of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. This mural is very cool. It's a mosaic of many smaller pictures that make up one larger mural.

That completes the first Adventure Lab in Portage La Prairie. The other AL's starting point is very close to where I'm standing. We'll do that one next week. Until then, be happy, stay safe, wear a mask and wash your hands, but most of all, have fun. Peace out.

Geocaching and July, 2022

Good morning everyone. Last month I was a little late in getting that month's blog published, but this month I want to get this out early. I'll explain why later. July has been an interesting month. I've been on a few adventures, rode my bike, and I've been hosting a weekly themed event. July started off with Auntie Mo and myself going on a spur of the moment road trip into the Southeast portion of Manitoba to do an Adventure Lab that takes us to some roadside attractions. There was other ALs to do as well. (big Buffalo in Grunthal, Manitoba) (big deer in Saint Malo, Manitoba) Later in the month, I tagged along with Auntie Mo as she did the four Adventure Labs in the East part of Winnipeg. Geocaching and Patreon

Good morning everyone. Almost 10 months is completed for the year 2019. Where has the time gone? Who has found the most geocaches so far? In Canada, it's Troqueurs32 with 10,423 finds. That's almost ten thousand more than me. Down in the U.S., mondou2 has found 16,743 geocaches. Locally, 4elements5senses has logged 2,169 finds so far among Manitoba based geocachers. Tick_Magnet is the top North Dakotan with 2,004. Geocaching and encounters with animals of the fake kind.

Good morning everyone. Welcome to blog #6. Before I start with this week's topic, here is today's geocaching fun fact: The province of Ontario has the most active Earthcaches with 500. Manitoba ranks 7th in Canada with 63. By comparison, California has 974 while Delaware and District of Columbia have 11 each. Personally, I have only done 29 so far and hope to increase that total this year. This week's topic is encounters with animals of the fake kind. These would be mostly crows, spiders, rats and snakes of the plastic, rubber type. I'm sure we've found our fair share of these. They're always fun to find and certainly are a break from film canisters in pine trees. How many of these made you jump when you found it before you knew it was a geocache?
