Geocaching and the March Cache Advance Cache Crate

Good morning everyone.  Now that I completed my 360 from home stat last weekend with a minimum of at least one find in every sector, now I can work on a second loop.  This can be challenging as a couple of the missing sectors are to the North East, and there's very few geocaches placed in that direction.  Mostly because there's a very large lake in that direction, and no roads on the other side of Lake Winnipeg.  I need to find caches in nine more sectors to complete a second loop.  How many times have you completed the 360 from home stat? With everything that's going on in the world right now, it seems hard to find something positive to make the day seem brighter.  I sort of knew that something positive would be coming in the mail this week.  It did in the form of the latest Cache Advance Cache Crate.  Sometimes you can predict what the theme might be before it arrives (Valentine's Day), and sometimes you just don't know.  This one was a mystery to me as I grabbe

Geocaching and Social Distancing

Good morning everyone.  This week I'm looking at my most distant found geocaches.  This is by longitude and latitude.  My most Easterly found geocache is 'Multi-Talented' - GCBCA6.  It has a longitude of W079 22.685.  It is also 1,515kilometers (941 miles) from my current home.  My most Westerly found cache is 'Lake of the Little Fishes' - GCA079.  It has a longitude of W116 12.978 and is 1,352km (840 miles) from home.  My most Southerly found cache is 'Cache with a View #2' - GC1V196.  It has a latitude of N36 05.902 and is 2,115km (1,314 miles) away.  Finally, my most Northerly found cache isn't very far North.  'Q' GC4BXQF has a latitude of N51 29.210 and is 174km (108 miles) from home. I actually had a different subject lined up for this week's blog.  With everything going on in the world right now and the social distancing that we're suppose to be practicing, I thought there could be a possible topic there.  Unless you've been

Geocaching and Leap Day pt 2.

Good morning everyone.  Have you seen the new 360 from home stat on Project-gc?  Basically it shows how many degrees around your home location that you have or haven't found a cache.  I have found in all degrees around my home location except for one.  Bearing 15-16.  I see two caches that fit in that bearing.  Looks like I'll be trying to fill that in, in the near future.  The bearing with the most finds is 220-221.  I have 75 caches found in that section.  Most of my big numbers come from that general bearing as there are plenty of caches to be found to the Southwest of my home location. Last week was the first part of my Leap Day activity and the nine icon challenge that I presented to myself.  I ended the blog with five icons found, needing only four more.  This week we find out if I was successful in my quest.  We left off having attended an event, found a traditional, a wherigo, puzzle (mystery) final, and a multi-stage cache.  Now I'm headed for a section of the ci

Geocaching and Leap Day pt. 1

Good morning everyone.  The most geocache types (icons) found in a single day by a Manitoba geocacher is 11.  That honor is shared by four people. KurtB, Bike4Me, 4elements5senses, and V.A.  In North Dakota, it's N0SND with 11 cache types.  Next door in Minnesota, there are 19 geocachers who have found 11 cache types in a single day. Leap Day.  That one day we get once every four years to keep the calendar year in sync with the astronomical year.  It's also the one day that's the hardest to fill in on your caches found and caches placed calendars.  You have to wait four years before you can go geocaching on February 29th again.  Needless to say, Leap Day is also a busy day for geocachers with plenty of events being held. I remember Leap Day 2016.  I had booked the day off work for the sole reason of going geocaching.  I was able to attend three events and I found eight puzzle finals.  Leap Day 2020 wasn't a big deal for me as I have that spot filled in on my respect

Good morning everyone.  Today I'll be looking at the furthest Virtual caches in Manitoba.  The most Northerly and most Easterly virtual is "Adventures in Churchill" GC7B6JX.  It has a Latitude of N58 46.391 and a Longitude of W094 10.235  Published in 2018 and was part of the Virtual 1.0 rewards.  Most Westerly virtual is "The Stack" GC88ZA0.  Published in 2019, it has a Longitude of W101 52.788.  The virtual that's the furthest South is actually in the city of Winnipeg (not extremely far South).  "Great Coaches In Blue Bomber History" GC88ZEE.  This can be found at Investors Group Field, home of the Canadian Football League and defending Grey Cup Champions, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.  Lastly, the oldest virtual is also in Winnipeg.  "First Post- Winnipeg" GC6C18.  Published in July, 2002 and can be found in the downtown area. It's that time of month where I get to open the latest Cache Advance Cache Crate.  Lots of smiles all aroun
