Geocaching and Cache Canada

Good morning everyone.  This week's fun facts is all about Cache Canada.  Did you know that Cache Canada has found caches in 18 different countries, nine out of thirteen regions in Canada (missing New Foundland and all three territories), 37 out of 51 States, completed a daily streak of 555 days and found 267 caches in a single day. Recently I had the pleasure of interviewing a fellow Canadian geocacher and YouTuber londonwesty (Dave), better known as Cache Canada.  Tagging along on londonwesty's adventures is his lovely wife, lyriclass (Karen).  Together, they found their first geocache on October 6, 2012.  'Cross Roads' GC17V3D was the first of three they found that day.  By the time the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend was done, they had ten finds.  They're hooked.  londonwesty ended 2012 with 35 finds.  The following years would see his yearly find count increase from the previous year. topping out at 2,274 in 2017. How did londonwesty and lyriclass discover ge

Geocaching and Roadside Attractions part 2.

Good morning everyone.  Do you do Wherigo caches?  I've only done four myself.  There are seven Wherigo caches in Manitoba.  Alberta leads the way with 325.  North Dakota has six Wherigo caches.  Not surprising that California has the most with 410. This week's blog is an impromptu one as my intended blog isn't quiet ready to be published.  It is something that I want to be done properly and anything less will be unsatisfactory.  While I give myself more time to work on that, I decided to go back to a topic that I originally did back in January, 2018.  Roadside Attractions.  It was my fourth blog and a topic that obviously I haven't come back to as I have come across plenty of these local attractions. Roadside Attractions are basically large statues or monuments, depicting something of the town or the area it's located in.  Some reflect the history, while others are simply tourist attractions.  I dug into my pictures and have come up with a few that I have disco

Geocaching and the Letterbox trail

Good morning everyone.  Did you know there are 11 Letterbox caches in North Dakota?  The most found is 'Hephaestus: God of Fire and Metalworking, part 2' GC4FV35 with 138 logged finds.  Utah has the most with 849 Letterbox caches.  In Canada, Ontario leads the way with 767 Letterbox caches.  Manitoba is 3rd in the country with 138.  The most found Letterbox cache in Manitoba is also the oldest Letterbox in Manitoba.  'World Peace' GCG4ZM, placed in May, 2003 has been found 345 times. For those who have been following along, know I haven't done much caching at all since the start of July.  In the four months since, I have found 46 caches.  Nineteen of those were found in July, with another thirteen in August.  Aside from a trip to Brandon at the beginning of August, I haven't dedicated any day towards a big caching trip or just a day itself to go caching.  Part of the reason is that life has done a complete flip for me.  I'm busier now and I don't reall

Geocaching and Kilcona Park.

Good morning everyone.  Who has fund the most Multi-stage caches?  In North Dakota, Pine and Poplar has the most with 134.  In the U.S, it's Dave w/o id from New York with a whopping 2,095.  North of the border, it's bluelamb03 from Ottawa with 1,624.  Locally it's JB with 561. This week I want to look at another park that's in Winnipeg and is the host of several geocaches and events.  Kilcona Park.  The park, which is situated in the North-East corner of the city, wasn't always a park.  In fact, the development of this park was initiated in the late 1970s to relieve the demand and usage of Kildonan Park.  Prior to the development, this area was a landfill site.  The park covers almost 100 hectares.  Within the park, you will find a baseball diamond, soccer pitch, frisbee golf course, ponds, 740 square meters of pathways (both asphalt and dirt), and an off-leash dog section.  A good number of caches can be found in the off-leash area, so if you are not comfortable
