Geocaching and my weekend.

Good morning everyone.  Today I'm going to look at the Letterbox cache.  The oldest active Letterbox in North Dakota is 'Ten to the 2nd Power cache' GC3FZY2, hidden in April, 2012.  The youngest, or newest is 'Grazing Bison' GC89QGK, hidden in June, 2019.  For Manitoba, 'World Peace' GCG4ZM, hidden in May, 2003 and recently activated again by adopted owner Bike-4-Me.  The youngest (or newest) by virtue of the GC code is 'Dani-Radius', GC8B79F.  Twenty one letterbox caches were hidden on July 24 (including the above mentioned Dani-Radius), along with 39 other letterbox caches that were hidden in June to form possibly the largest letterbox powertrail. Since my epic trip to North Dakota and the camping and caching event, I have basically done no caching at all.  I do have one find that I had found a week ago.  An evilish hide from RichardFam5 that I was able to spot, but too longer to get my fingers on.  That's it.  One find for the month of July

Geocaching and the North Dakota Camping and Caching event, Day 4 & 5

Good morning everyone.  Did you know there are 26 Earthcaches in North Dakota?  The oldest is 'Horizon's Gift of Glaciers' GCZDAX, published in November, 2006.  The newest is 'Kettle Lake Earthcache' GC6RFFW, published in September, 2016.  Manitoba has 64 Earthcaches.  The oldest is 'Dunes Day' GC12902, published in April, 2007.  The newest is 'The Oxbow of the Red' GC81PQP, published in December, 2018. It's Sunday morning.  Day number four of my North Dakota adventure and the wind up to the caching and camping event.  Today was a simple pancake breakfast event before everyone scatters in different directions.  Some made plans to go see the Medora musical in nearby Medora, North Dakota.  I had my own plans that included making my way to Grand Forks for the night and adding more counties to my list.  Before that all happens, I need to pack up and check out.  I'm fairly confident that I was the last one to show up for the pancake breakfast.

Geocaching and the North Dakota Camping and Caching event Day 3

Good morning everyone.  Did you know that there are 3,101 active geocaches in North Dakota?  That is good for 48th place in the U.S., ahead of Delaware (2,903), Hawaii (2,450), and District of Columbia (245).  Meanwhile, Manitoba has 8,810 active geocaches, good for 9th in Canada.  Newfoundland (8,171), Yukon (389), Northwest (383) and Nunavut (103) have fewer. Saturday, June 22nd.  The meat and potatoes of the camping and caching event.  Everyone gathered at Pioneer Park for an 8am (mountain time) start.  As we found out what the game was, the rules, plus signing in and registering, a buzz quickly swept through the picnic shelter.  A brand new geocache was published.  I tried to do a head count of all the first to find seekers.  There may have been at least 18 of us.  It's magnetic and somewhere on the caboose that's on display.  The owner, gloworm77, sat back at the picnic shelter with Butterfly_77, having a good chuckle as it was taking us much longer to find the cache.  I

North Dakota Camping and Caching event, Day 2

Good morning everyone.  Did you know that there are 108 active web cam geocaches in the United States?  They are located in 39 out of 51 states, including the District of Columbia.  Canada has six web cams in four provinces.  Neither North Dakota or Manitoba have web cams. It's day two of my trip.  Friday, June21st.  I woke up to see that it had rained a bit.  I want to grab a few more caches in Williston before heading back out on the highway.  One thing I saw quite a few of in my travels is wood carvings from dead trees.  Instead of cutting the tree right down, an artist created a carving.  There is a park in Williston with a whole bunch of these carvings.  Quite impressive to see.  The one pictured below is at the Williston Visitor's Centre. The next cache is a story in itself.  I pulled up to GZ and made my way over to the host.  As I got close to the fence, something caught my attention out of the corner of my eye.  It's a cat, with a mouse in it's mouth.
