Geocaching and the June Photo Contest.

Good morning everyone.  Today we stop in Vermont for the oldest and most favorite.  Once again, it's the same geocache that claims both honors.  'Vermont 1'  GC86.  This multi-stage cache was placed on October 14, 2000.  So far, it has been found 821 times and has 436 favorite points. It's that time of month where I announce the winner of the May photo contest and reveal what the theme will be for June.  For the month of May, the theme was April Showers Bring May Flowers.  A picture of anything that blooms.  It could be flowers, leaves, weeds, anything that will bloom or sprout as a result of April showers. Here are this month's enteries.  All four are first time entrants.  First up is TeamAdventure4.  They recently adopted a bunch of geocaches.  Most are ammo cans that have been in play for 15 years.  While searching for the ones they haven't found yet, they did come across a hillside of blooming trilliums. Next up is our first international entry.  This is RI

Geocaching and First Finds

Good morning everyone.  We are nearing the end of the oldest and most favorite geocaches in the United States.  Today it's Massachusetts.  The oldest and most favorite is 'First Mass' GC74.  Hidden on October 1st, 2000.  This traditional has been found 2,542 times and has 866 favorite points to date. A recent episode of The Geocaching Podcast (May 19) talked about the very first geocache you found.  It's always interesting hearing how others discovered this new way of life.  I did a whole blog on my very first find a couple of years ago.  I'm not going to relive the entire story today.  You can read it here >  My First Find   You can catch the episode of The Geocaching Podcast, episode 666 (they should have discussed horror stories, evil hides, or something more fitting of the episode number LOL) here >  The Geocaching Podcast   Towards the end of the show, Jesse (shortyknits) made a comment about your first find for each cache type.  That's when the ligh

Geocaching and the Week that was pt. 2

Good morning everyone.  We're in the smallest State today, Rhode Island.  Probably the easiest to do the county challenge.  The very first geocache placed and still active is 'Breton Point' GCEC.  Hidddn in December, 2000, this cache has been found 3,134 times and has 630 favorite points.  It is also the most favorite cache in Rhode Island. Picking up from where I left off last week, this is a chronicle of my geocaching week over the past seven days.   Saturday, May 8th.  My goal for today is to find four geocaches.  I'm also going to cap a bunch of Munzees as well.  I have my sights set on the East side of the Red River.  First up is GC94869.  It's located at the corner of Henderson Hwy and one of the many residential streets that connect to Henderson.  I know where I'm headed, so I don't need my phone to guide me in.  I park on the residential street, pull up the cache page, read the hint, looked out the front window of my car and spotted the prize.  A qu

Geocaching and the Week That Was, pt 1.

Good morning everyone.  It's off to Connecticut.  The first geocache placed was G32-2  GC91.  Hidden in October, 2000, it was found twice before going missing early in 2001.  The oldest active geocache is also the most favorite.  Another Brick in the Wall,  GCE4.  Hidden in December, 2000, it has 1,877 found logs and 520 favorite points so far. After publishing last week's blog, I began to think about what the next blog will be about.  My mind drew a blank.  I do have Adventure Labs that I've done that I haven't written about yet.  Honestly, I don't feel like writing about that.  I do have other blogs that are incomplete.  Honestly, I don't feel like working on those either.  I want to do something fresh.  Since I  schedule the blogs for publishing on The Geocaching Guild, I have access to different writing styles.  There is no wrong way to present your story.  Some do a short, one or two paragraph entry with a picture or two.  Some, like myself, like to tell a

Geocaching and the May Photo Contest

Good morning everyone.  It's off to New York, home of the Big Apple.  The oldest and most favorite geocache is located in the western part of the State.  'The Spot'  GC39 was hidden May 26th, 2000.  It has been found 2,424 times and has 1,263 favorite points.  The most found cache in New York State is in the city of New York.  'Snug as a Bug in Central Park'  GC12F8M.  Hidden April 27th, 2007, this traditional has been found 14,722 times and has 609 favorite points. It's time to announce the winner of the April photo contest and reveal the theme for May.  The April theme was to take a picture of picking up some litter/trash.  There were three submissions for this month.  Let's take a look at the entries. First up is Stonagal.  Along with another former Manitoba alumni, did a roadside CITO together and came up with a couple of bags of garbage. Next up is MWDL who collected a bag of empty beer cans that they found along a trail.   And the last entry is from J
