Geocaching and My Adventure Lab

Good morning everyone.  It's off to Wyoming.  The most favorite cache is an Earthcache.  'Old Faithful Geyser at Yellowstone' GC10HZW.  Placed in January, 2007, it has been found 5,999 times and has received 849 favorite points.  The oldest cache is 'Won Wyo' GC3B5.  Hidden in March, 2001, it was found 23 times with the last find being in 2002.  It was archived in 2003, although someone claimed to have found it in 2011.  Oldest active cache is 'Bridger-Teton Cache' GCD7E.  Hidden in June, 2001, it has been found 118 times (it has a D/T rating of 4/3) and has received 53 favorite points. Earlier this year, I was awarded an Adventure Lab.  I knew what and where I wanted my Adventure Lab to be, but didn't know how to go about setting it up.  After meeting up with Peter of Peter & Gloria (local geocachers), where I got an Adventure Lab 101 guide, I was ready to get this project under way.  My original plan was to do this in the Spring, but the pandemic h

Geocaching and the July Cache Advance Cache Crate

Good morning everyone.  This week we stop in Utah for it's oldest and most favorite geocache.  'Potter's Pond'  GC3B is the  most favorite cache and the oldest.  Hidden on August 27, 2000, it has been found 1,629 times and has 793 favorite points.  The cache with the second most favorite points is also the most found cache.  'Bryce Canyon National Park - Inspiration Point' GCHQMX.  This virtual was placed in February of 2004.  It has 640 favorite points and has 4,240 found logs. My July Cache Advance Cache Crate arrived this week.  This is the first crate I've received since May and first to arrive at my new address.  Even though I have mail forwarding, the June Cache Crate didn't get rerouted.  The tracking code says it was delivered last month.  Where it got delivered is a mystery.  It's time to see what's inside that will get me outside.   I don't open the box completely.  I have it open just enough for me to reach in.  First out is the b

Geocaching and My Memory Lane

Good morning everyone.  This week, we'll be looking at Arizona's oldest and most favorite caches.  The oldest is simply called 'Geocache' GC57.  Hidden in September, 2000, it has 1,517 found logs and 722 favorite points.  It's located East of Scottsdale.  The most favorite cache is one that I would personally like to get.  'Standin On The Corner....'  GC64F7.  This virtual was placed in June, 2002.  It has 2,978 found logs and 815 favorite points.  This cache can be found at a corner in Winslow, Arizona.  Just like in the Eagles song 'Take It Easy'. As everyone is well aware, Geocaching HQ is celebrating the 20th birthday of geocaching with a virtual challenge called Memory Lane.  Just recently, I was reminded of my geocaching birthday.  August 7th to be exact and it's my 7th geocaching birthday.  I had heard of geocaching years earlier, but didn't really look into it at the time.  It wasn't until I was talking to a neighborhood dad at m

Geocaching and the August Long Weekend.

Good morning everyone.  Coming back to the mainland, we look at Nevada.  The oldest cache is First Nevada GC6C.  Hidden in September, 2000, it was never found and only one DNF before it was archived.  The oldest active cache is XKD - 380 GCF9.  Hidden in December, 2000, it has been found 1,647 times and has received 652 favorite points.  The most favorited cache in Nevada shouldn't come as a surprise (I haven't run the stat yet and I already know which one it will be).  I'm right.  It's Welcome to Las Vegas GC729A.  This virtual was placed at the Welcome to Las Vegas sign in July, 2002.  To date, it has 10,101 logged finds and 1,719 favorite points. The first Monday in August is a holiday that is commonly referred to as the August long weekend.  Prior to 2015, it was simply known as a Civic Holiday.  Starting in 2015 and moving forward, that first Monday in August was renamed Terry Fox Day in Manitoba.  For those who don't know who Terry Fox is; Terry was a young ma

Geocaching and Filling Some Gaps

Good morning everyone.  This week we'll look at Hawaii.  The oldest geocache is on the island of Oahu (same island as Honolulu).  'Geocache'  GC23 was hidden in July, 2000.  It has 1,761 logged finds and 548 favorite points.  The geocache with the most favorite points is an Earthcache on the island of Maui.  Pu'u'u'ula'ula (Red Hill) Haleakala Volcano Summit (GC18Z99).  Hidden in January, 2008, it has 2,163 logged finds and 702 favorite points. One thing that I use to do all the time was look at my stats page.  Either on the official geocaching website or on Project-gc.  I would see where I had a gap in my stats and what cache should I go after to fill in that blank spot.  I was always planning road trips to somewhere.  Anywhere.  This year, I really haven't done that.  I did look at the 360 degrees from home stat and filled that in back in March.   A nice green circle.  No red missing sectors.  Until I moved.  Moving for the most part shouldn't chan
