Geocaching and the North Dakota Camping and Caching event, day 1.

Good morning everyone.  Did you know that only four provinces have a Webcam geocache?  Ontario, B.C., Nova Scotia, and Saskatchewan.  39 out of 51 States (including District of Columbia) have a Webcam geocache.  The closest Webcam to Winnipeg is Ely Webcam (GCP6T7) in Ely, Minnesota.  Approximately a four and a half hour drive from here. For those who have been following along for awhile now, have seen me mention the North Dakota Camping and Caching event a few times over the past months.  That weekend finally arrived.  Months of planning and prepping has come down to the final hours.  I opted to not camp this year, but do the cheap motel route.  That would be interesting in itself.  Before I get to my first cheap hotel in Williston, North Dakota, I have a seven plus hour drive and a number of caches to find.  I'm also working on my North Dakota county challenge, plus other challenges that I either have already stated or have come up with at the last minute. Before I begin my j

Geocaching and Pictures, part 2

Good morning everyone.  The daily caching streak.  Have you done one?  What is your longest?  Did you know that there are six geocachers in Manitoba that went more than one thousand days in a row of finding a geocache?  There are seventy six Canadians with streaks over one thousand days.  Four hundred and twenty seven American geocachers have streaks over one thousand days.  None of those are from North Dakota. This week is a quick blog that I prepared over a week ago.  With really no time to sit and compose a proper blog, I decided to let the pictures tell a story of some of my past adventures.  I believe I found these particular caches in 2014.  I know for certain that four of these caches are still active. This one I found in Ontario, on my way to Blue Lake with the boys for a week of camping.  'Whistlin' Dixie - TCDNON' GCW3RW.  The camo blended in really good.  From a distance, it looked like a stump among other trees.  You can see the container in the picture.

Geocaching and I've Got Mail

Good morning everyone.  How many Whereigo caches have you found?  To date, I've only done three.  Top Manitoban is Bike4Me with 216 Whereigo caches.  Top Canadian is Troqueurs32 from Quebec with 358 Whereigos.  To the South, bucknuts from Iowa has 1,706 Whereigos so far.  Top North Dakotan is nwaman with 108. For those who follow geocaching YouTubers (vloggers), you will see from time to time that vlogger showing what geocaching goodies they got in the mail recently.  Some geocachers will share on social media a picture of their latest swag.  This week is my turn to share some of the stuff I've received in the mail. One of the things I've always wanted to get was a trackable for my car.  At a recent CITO event in May, I was lucky enough to win one of the prizes handed out.  My gift bag included a variety of items, included a $10 gift certificate for LandSharkz.  For those who are unfamiliar with Landsharkz, they are geocaching supply store located in Victoria, BC.  You

Geocaching and Odds and Ends pt. 4

Good morning everyone.  Did you know that out of the 23 areas that Project-gc divides Manitoba into, only 18 of those areas have a mystery cache hidden in it's borders?  You can find a multi-stage cache in 20 of the 23 areas.  In North Dakota; 20 out of 53 counties have a multi-stage cache and only 16 of the 53 counties have a mystery cache. This week should be a look back at the month of May for geocaching on my part.  With only 32 finds for the month, that doesn't give me much material to work with.  The lack of finds was on purpose though.  I have plans on having an awesome month of caching in June.  Looking at my stats page and I have known this for sometime, June takes a dip in numbers for total finds.  March has 450 finds.  April sees an increase up to 524.  I ended May with 500.  June dips down to 377.  July and August have over 600 finds with September and October at over 500 each.  I have no explanation for June, so I plan on fixing that this year. Before we get th

Geocaching and A Day in the Life

Good morning everyone.  Who has found the most mystery/unknown cache types in a single month?  In Canada, that goes to Casper & Areo from Quebec with 2,708 finds.  Not far behind is Troqueurs32, also from Quebec with 2,658.  Locally, It's Awol with 449 mystery finds and JB coming in second with 442.  Across the border, it's AZ4X4s from Arizona with 1,903 and very close behind is Subman, also from Arizona with 1901.  In North Dakota, it's N0SND with 276, edging out pete_moss with 275 mystery finds. There are many aspects of geocaching that I like.  One of them is that anyone can get involved with the hobby.  It doesn't matter what you do for a living.  I know of a couple of doctors that geocache.  Computer techs, plenty of teachers, retired couples, military personnel, healthcare workers, factory workers, the list goes on and on.  I've done previous blogs about a typical Saturday with me.  Today, I want to take you on a little trip to see what it is that I d
