Geocaching and I've Got Mail

Good morning everyone.  How many Whereigo caches have you found?  To date, I've only done three.  Top Manitoban is Bike4Me with 216 Whereigo caches.  Top Canadian is Troqueurs32 from Quebec with 358 Whereigos.  To the South, bucknuts from Iowa has 1,706 Whereigos so far.  Top North Dakotan is nwaman with 108.

For those who follow geocaching YouTubers (vloggers), you will see from time to time that vlogger showing what geocaching goodies they got in the mail recently.  Some geocachers will share on social media a picture of their latest swag.  This week is my turn to share some of the stuff I've received in the mail.

One of the things I've always wanted to get was a trackable for my car.  At a recent CITO event in May, I was lucky enough to win one of the prizes handed out.  My gift bag included a variety of items, included a $10 gift certificate for LandSharkz.  For those who are unfamiliar with Landsharkz, they are geocaching supply store located in Victoria, BC.  You can check out all the geocaching goodies that you can get from Landsharkz here https://www.landsharkz.ca/    How can you select just one item when shopping at a geocaching supply store?  I couldn't resist and got a trackable name tag for myself.

I was excited to receive my two trackables in the mail.  There was a small hiccup with the order through no fault of anyone.  I found the customer service to be outstanding.  Christie Seymour, office manager at Landsharkz was able to fix things quickly and the end result was a very happy customer.  Thank you Christie for all your help.

Who doesn't like entering contests for geocaching stuff?  I had entered for an Easter egg geocoin from North Dakota cacher N0SND.  I was one of three lucky winners.  This will be added to my collection as I don't release my trackables out in the wild anymore.

One of the benefits of being a Patreon member to some of the geocaching content creators is the stuff you can get in the mail.  Patreon allows you to support these creators for a small monthly fee.  There's usually different amounts you can pick from for your monthly support.  For the most part, it costs only a few dollars per month.  A couple of coffees and donuts.  One of the creators I've been supporting for over a year now is GeoJangie.  For those not familiar with GeoJangie, she is a blogger and administrator for The Geocaching Guild FB page.  I have been fortunate enough to receive a number of items over the year.  Pathtags, trackables, buttons to name some of the items.  Some of the trackables I've received that are not pictured is a Geocache Talk zipper pull (it's really small), a Duck Tales Louie (Louie is suppose to be a charmer, just like me  LOL)

Someone else that I recently began supporting is Cache The Line.  He is a vlogger from Ontario and I've always enjoyed the videos that CTL puts out and always amazed at how easily he can climb trees.  Let's not forget some of the culverts he has gone in to find a geocache.  My first Patreon "gift bag" from Cache The Line included four buttons, a pathtag, and an emblem.  Being a Patreon member to these geocaching creators is well worth it.  I'm happy with the material they produce and for the goodies I receive in the mail.

One more item that I was anxiously waiting to arrive in the mail is my Cache Canada T-shirt.  That arrived today finally.  I was concerned that it was lost in the mail and I'd be going to the North Dakota Camping and Caching event without my Cache Canada T-shirt.  Cache Canada is another vlogger from Ontario.  His 'One Minute Wednesday's' are always fun to watch.  You never know where geocaching will take you.

Who knows what will come in the mail down the road.  I'm sure there will be more pathtags and trackables.  I'll have to come up with a home for all my pathtags as my collection is increasing.  Same for my trackables.  The container I keep them in is also trackable, but I might have to get a larger container and transfer the code over as well.

Challenge update:  Nothing really new to report here.  I have found a few and my total for this month so far is 90 finds.  I'm going to be busy with other things, including getting ready for my journey down to the camping and caching event.

That's all for this week.  There will be a blog next week but it will be something that I've prepared ahead of time as I can't see me having any time to sit at the laptop to compose something.  Until then, be happy, be safe, enjoy life, and most of all, have fun.  Peace out.

Sit Dexter.  Good boy.

Geocaching and July, 2022

Good morning everyone.  Last month I was a little late in getting that month's blog published, but this month I want to get this out early.  I'll explain why later. July has been an interesting month.  I've been on a few adventures, rode my bike, and I've been hosting a weekly themed event. July started off with Auntie Mo and myself going on a spur of the moment road trip into the Southeast portion of Manitoba to do an Adventure Lab that takes us to some roadside attractions.  There was other ALs to do as well. (big Buffalo in Grunthal, Manitoba) (big deer in Saint Malo, Manitoba) Later in the month, I tagged along with Auntie Mo as she did the four Adventure Labs in the East part of Winnipeg.  I had done them already, but I couldn't resist giving Auntie Mo a tour of Transcona.  This also helped set her up to be close enough to claim her 800th find while she visits family back home in Nova Scotia.  As I write this, she has reached that milest

Geocaching and Patreon

Good morning everyone.  Almost 10 months is completed for the year 2019.  Where has the time gone?  Who has found the most geocaches so far?  In Canada, it's Troqueurs32 with 10,423 finds.  That's almost ten thousand more than me.  Down in the U.S., mondou2 has found 16,743 geocaches.  Locally, 4elements5senses has logged 2,169 finds so far among Manitoba based geocachers.  Tick_Magnet is the top North Dakotan with 2,004. If you follow any of the Geocaching YouTubers (vloggers), podcasters, or bloggers, you may have heard some talking about and thanking their Patreon subscribers.  What exactly is this Patreon that these people are talking about?  Hopefully this week's blog will help you understand the background and connection that these geocaching artists have with Patreon.  Helping me out with this project are two people that I subscribe to.  GeoJangie and Cache the Line, both of whom are Patreon creators. First, a little background history.  Patreon was co-founded by

Geocaching and April in review

Good morning everyone.  Top favorite mystery cache in Canada is Ex Libris (GC4GZGB) in British Columbia.  Active since 2013, it has been found 722 times and has been given 282 favorite points.  Top favorited mystery cache in Manitoba is Water World (GC4MA6Y).  Active since 2013, it has been found 138 times and has received 99 points.  Top American favorite mystery cache is HQGT Ode to the Golgafrinchan Phone Workers (GC32A0H) in Seattle, Washington.  Active since 2013, found 7,313 times with 2,740 favorite points.  For North Dakota, Factory Outlet (GC576Q1) by trycacheus is the top favorited mystery cache.  Active since 2014, found 114 times and has 71 favorite points. How did everyone do for finding caches in April?  I found 41 caches.  Not exactly a big number like I use to do in the past.  Having my area mostly cached out will lead to fewer finds as I rely on newer caches to be published.  Last year, I did run out when I got the notification for a newly published geocaches nearby.
