Good morning everyone. Who has fund the most Multi-stage caches? In North Dakota, Pine and Poplar has the most with 134. In the U.S, it's Dave w/o id from New York with a whopping 2,095. North of the border, it's bluelamb03 from Ottawa with 1,624. Locally it's JB with 561.
This week I want to look at another park that's in Winnipeg and is the host of several geocaches and events. Kilcona Park. The park, which is situated in the North-East corner of the city, wasn't always a park. In fact, the development of this park was initiated in the late 1970s to relieve the demand and usage of Kildonan Park. Prior to the development, this area was a landfill site. The park covers almost 100 hectares. Within the park, you will find a baseball diamond, soccer pitch, frisbee golf course, ponds, 740 square meters of pathways (both asphalt and dirt), and an off-leash dog section. A good number of caches can be found in the off-leash area, so if you are not comfortable with loose dogs running up to you, then this isn't the place for you. To the East of Kilcona Park (and some consider this to still be part of the park) is Harbourview Golf and Recreation complex. This area includes a nine hole golf course, mini golf course, tennis courts, playground, and a hill that is popular for sledding in the Winter (yes, I have gone sledding here with my boys).
When you pull into the parking lot that's on the West side of the park, you are immediately in the off-leash area. You also see a hill that occupies a good chunk of the park. If you want a good exercise, try running up and down this hill a few times.
As mentioned, Kilcona Park has been the host for some geocaching events. There has been two CITOs to date where local geocachers and members of the off-leash dog club teamed up to spread wood chips on the dirt paths. Dirt and wet weather equals muddy conditions for the dogs and the owners. There are a few geocachers that are also members of the dog club. With that connection, it was possible for both groups to team up and get a lot of work done in a very short period of time. The local city councillor for the area provided pizza for all those that attended and there was draws for prizes as well.

Also nearby to the parking lot is one shelter that is also the host location for one of the events.
A few more views of the park from various spots while I was out and about on this day. I did find three geocaches, two of them were part of the pirate event.

Almost every year, three local cachers host a pirate event, usually in September. Tuppergurl, crackerjackie, and =GeoJoe= have teamed up to put out pirate themed caches. I have had the pleasure of attending a few of the pirate events. They are a lot of fun. The trio place new unpublished caches just for that year's event. Everyone gets pirate themed puzzles to solve, then it's off to the races to get the coveted first to find. Some of the older pirate caches will be archived to make way for newer ones. The caches themselves are awesome and worth the trip to the park to find.

(Chinese New Year - Year of the Dog GC3BAC1, archived in September, 2019)
As you can see, there are lots of caches to be found in Kilcona Park. The ones I haven't found are newer ones that I hope to get to one day.
That's it for this week. Until next time, be safe out there, enjoy life, hug your geo-pets, have fun, and most of all, be happy with yourself and what you do. Peace out.
(time for a cat nap)
